For Attorneys

For Attorneys

Appellate co-counsel for trial lawyers.

When a case needs an appeal, a brief, or the record protected, we step in — so you can stay focused on your trial docket.

The appellate hand-off

Trial work and appellate work pull in different directions.

Drafting a brief or building a record for appeal is demanding work that can pull you away from an active trial schedule. We take on that piece — as co-counsel or by referral — so your client gets focused appellate representation and you keep moving.

How we help

Where we take the load

Direct appeals

We handle criminal appeals to the Missouri Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Missouri, and to the Eighth Circuit in federal cases — from the record on appeal through briefing and oral argument.

Post-trial & post-conviction

Post-trial motions and post-conviction proceedings, including Missouri Rule 29.15 and 24.035 motions and federal habeas relief under §2255 and §2254.

Brief writing

Need the writing done while you try the case? We can draft appellate and dispositive briefing on the record you built, in your client’s name and yours.

Preserving the record

Bring us in during or after trial to help make sure the issues that matter are preserved for appeal — before the chance to raise them is gone.

How engagements work

Straightforward and respectful of your relationship

Your client stays your client. We take on the defined appellate or post-conviction scope you engage us for — nothing more. We do not use a referral as a door to your client’s other matters.

Fees are handled by the rules. When we share a fee, we do it in compliance with Missouri Supreme Court Rule 4-1.5(e) — a division proportional to the work or with joint responsibility, agreed to by the client in writing, for a total fee that is reasonable.

Clear scope, clear communication. We agree up front on who does what, how we’ll communicate with the client, and how the work will be billed — so there are no surprises for you or the client.
